Our restored top loft is a intimate and peaceful setting for religious or humanist ceremonies, with panoramic views out over Orkney and the sounds of the trickling burn below.

Our entrance area is the perfect place for a reception or wedding breakfast, with a small lawn and balcony overhanging the water. During the summer the burn valley below comes alive with the purples and pinks of wild rocket, heather, and honeysuckle.

For larger weddings, why not hire a marquee and set up on our grounds behind the mill, with sunset views over the Pentland Firth.

• Our team will guide you through your booking, with knowledge of local caterers, florists, photographers, and equipment hire
• Private hire of our mill for the full day
• Unlimited use of our grounds for wedding photoshoots, both the day before and the day itself
• Use of our 40 wooden cross-back stacking chairs, four wooden banquet tables with matching benches, and kitchenette
• Exclusive use of our car park, with 20 car bays and two coach bays
• Kitchenette facilities with fridge, microwave oven, and coffee machine

Capacity

Indoors: 70 people (including staff and wedding party). Recommended up to 50 guests.
Outdoors: 150 people (including staff and wedding party).

We can help to arrange marquee and additional outdoor lavatory hire.

Additional

We also have two period holiday cottages on site, our Old Mill and Stables Cottage, sleeping four and six people respectively. Hire of these can be included in your wedding package,
subject to availability.

Our venue is fully accessible, with elevators to each floor.

With two spacious function areas, our historical Top Loft and modern Entrance, the John O’Groats Mill has all the rustic charm of a 125 year old industrial building, with the amenities of a 21st century build. Our Entrance offers floor to ceiling windows, — with views down the burn valley to Orkney — underfloor heating, and kitchen facilities, including a coffee machine.

A warm and versatile venue, purpose-built for community parties, clubs, and workshops

The John O’Groats Mill is a building steeped in local history. Our kiln was once a warm meeting place for young folk in the long Caithness winters. With this in mind, the JOG Mill Trust ensured that the renovations to the mill included a purpose-built function area, our entrance. This area is perfect for group meetings, talks, craft groups, and more.

Our Top Loft is the perfect for a party or larger community event. While our recent renovations added insulation, heaters, and modern, dimmable lighting, the space has lost none of its rustic character.
